A triumphant success for the second edition of Igloofest Quebec
Over 18,000 Igloosapiens gathered at Place Jean-Béliveau!
Quebec City, Sunday, March 10, 2024 – More than 18,000 Igloosapiens gathered this past weekend, from March 7 to 9, for the second edition of Igloofest Quebec, presented by Loto-Québec in collaboration with Vidéotron. ExpoCité was transformed into a giant winter dance floor, creating an unforgettable view and atmosphere as electronic music fans energized the 10 DJs on the 2024 lineup, including headliners Lost Frequencies, Above & Beyond, and KAYTRANADA! The day after the event, Gestev and Multicolore are thrilled to confirm that the event will return to Place Jean-Béliveau in 2025.
“It’s impressive to see such strong growth between our first and second editions,” said Martin Tremblay, President of Gestev. “We welcomed 50% more attendees than last year, with a sold-out night for KAYTRANADA on Saturday. We can feel the excitement building, and for 2025, we’re ready and eager to adapt to this growing enthusiasm.”
The new site layout ensured smooth flow and easy access to various services and amenities, allowing everyone to focus on dancing and enjoying the high-quality lineup. Several production upgrades in sound, projections, and lighting, along with two additional VIP platforms, elevated the event experience. Though it proudly calls itself the “coldest festival in the world,” this year’s Igloofest Quebec enjoyed milder temperatures, allowing festival-goers to dance comfortably in lighter attire, with music extended until midnight on Friday with a noise exemption, and until 11 p.m. the other two nights. Based on this year’s experience, organizers are considering extending the duration of one or more nights next year.
“We’re excited to see how well our festival vibe translates here and that, just like in Montreal, people are having fun, embracing the wild world of Igloofest and its top-notch lineup without hesitation,” said Pascal Lefebvre, co-founder, president, and CEO of Multicolore. “The site, the crowd, the atmosphere, the artists—everything was just right! It opens up great possibilities for electronic music in Quebec in the coming years.”
Quebec’s own DJ Shieldie, from Charlesbourg, kicked off the event on Thursday night, playing for his hometown crowd before DJ Pøptrt took over, raising the energy ahead of the night’s headliner. In an interview just before his set, proudly wearing a Quebec Remparts jersey and an Ashton beanie, Felix de Laet (Lost Frequencies) shared his admiration for Quebec City, whose language and architecture give him a familiar European vibe. He also mentioned his love for the “crazy” side of Igloofest and his excitement to share the stage with local hero KAYTRANADA and legends Above & Beyond. The latter thrilled fans on Friday with their “push the button” concept, inviting audience members onstage to press the button and kickstart the music. The weekend wrapped up with a sold-out Saturday night, where KAYTRANADA had thousands of Igloosapiens dancing to his beats.
The Après-Ski parties, offered for the first time to Igloosapiens wanting to keep the celebration going into the early hours, were a huge success, providing an intimate setting at St-Joseph’s Nightclub to see select artists up close. This concept will likely return and be expanded in 2025.
